Depends what category it was. You know, if you're looking for a product, it's how you manufacture that product, how you promote it, the resilience within the company - all different factors add up to get that one thing that you're looking for. Work ethic is important, to have a good team around you is exceptional.

Meeting the criteria of the category, in an apprentice that they can speak for themselves, not just be put forward by their organisation. Quality of work and some level of innovation and excellence.

The shortlist allows for the opportunity to focus on a few awards and compare and contrast what is best about each. I personally wanted to see how the submissions have impacted the build and managed the environment for the better.

I was looking for innovation, proof of the achievements, scalability, and data to back it up. I wanted to know what was important to you. Particularly can this be replicated?

That the entrants met the Brief, and that their entry demonstrates their commitment to the industry.

Different things for different categories, but generally commitment to the award category, going beyond the general standard innovation. The industry always needs to move forward and in the contractor award, the customer service, which can often be missing after a sale is made.

The awards are about excellence and not just good business as usual.  I look for evidence to back-up the claims of excellence made in the submission.

Innovation in products and projects is the key for me. I don't like entries that are just the same old, same old; the winners for me are those who have demonstrated they can think outside of the box and go above and beyond the norm to deliver real progress and innovation.
