Peter Thom  F.R.S.A, F.I.D.H.E.E., F.C.I.P.H.E

Peter joined the industry as an apprentice with Eastern Gas in 1965. In 1990 Peter launched his own company, Green Heat Ltd, an Energy Efficiency and Environmental Company and has pioneered Energy Efficiency and Home Energy Ratings for the past 34 years. On the 7th December 2019 Green Heat reached a major milestone helping to save 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. Peter has recently retired after 59 years in the industry.

Peter & Green Heat have won a number of awards including Business of the Year from the Federation of Small Businesses, Domestic Installer of the Year from H&V News IN 2001 and 2009, an Environmental award from Worcester Bosch and The Gas Industry Energy Efficiency Award in 2009 in recognition of his dedication raising the profile of efficient heating and hot water systems. Peter is a Fellow of the RSA in recognition of his long-standing work for improving the Environment. In 2010 Peter was awarded the first John Chesshire Green Business Award in recognition of his long standing achievements including the introduction of the boiler scrappage scheme, home energy audits and raising awareness of the need for efficient heating and hot water systems including condensing boilers and renewable technologies. In 2018 Peter was awarded Energy Efficiency Champion in the Eastern Region Energy Efficiency Awards.

Peter is also a Fellow, Past President and Director of the Institute of Domestic Heating & Environmental Engineers (IDHEE) which has now amalgamated with the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering which Peter is a Trustee of. He is also a Member of Peterborough Environment City Trust and was Chairman of the Heating Strategy Group of the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Buildings for over 12 years. In 2022 Peter received a Special Recognition Energy Saving Award for his many years of raising awareness about the importance of conserving energy and reducing carbon emissions.
