Renewable Project of the Year

GI Energy has both designed and is currently installing a renewable energy solution with Bombardier UK’s appointed construction team, Vinci Taylor Woodrow on the design and build of the new Crossrail Rail Depot building at Old Oak Common, West London that will enable Bombardier to build, operate and maintain Crossrail trains for 30 years once the railway opens in 2017.GI Energy are currently collaborating with the appointed project team RPS Associates, Atkins, and Vinci to develop a renewable energy solution that will deliver over 30% of the Depots energy demands from renewable technologies. GI Energy will ultimately design and install a multi renewable energy solution consisting of:
Ground Sourced Heat Pumps(GSHP) utilising energy piles and 150m deep boreholes
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) System will provide top up heating and electrical load
220m² Solar Thermal
1498m² Solar PV
Approximately 54% of the new railway depot’s heating and cooling will be provided from renewable technologies and 20% of electrical load will be generated on site from CHP / Solar PV, providing the rail depot with an overall 33% renewable energy solution
